K&N sells a filter recharge kit. Just be sure to follow the directions. You can damage the filter material easily.

Ditto!

You need the recharge kit.
Really simple: first tamp out the excess dirt/dust, then gently rinse the filter with regular water, going in the opposite direction of which way the air would normally come in, let it dry, then spray the "oil" that comes in the recharge kit. Should last you quite awhile between rechargings.

Before rinsing with water, you must spray the cleaner on the filter. Then rinse with water after you let the cleaner sit a while.
