Default Headlight pitting

The headlights on my 02 GT are starting to look like someone took a sand blaster to them. IS there anyway to polish them to help make them more clear again rather than just replace them?

Go to any auto store that sells Meguires and try their Clear Plastic Polish. I've used it on scratched domes of cctv cameras and it works great. Its listed as being for plastic head/tail lamps! Use a lot of elbow grease and it should do the trick. If they are REALLY bad and the "hand job" doesn't do the trick, you may have to invest in a rotary polisher and use a plastic polishing buff with that Meguires polish.

I tried the Maguires and it did a little to help the haze, but not nearly what I was hoping for. I even took it to a body shop owned by a buddy of mine and they used a compound designed specifically to buff out headlights and their high rpm buffer and it did a great job, but there were some places that just refuse to come unhazed. I've heard wet sanding can help too but I don't want to try it until I've heard some feedback from people that have tried it. Has anyone here?

I wetsanded one of my headlights, which was very hazy. It cleared it out VERY well, probably took it from about 30% clear to 85% clear. The process does remove all of the clearcoat from the light. I tried to put a new coat of clear on, but I'm either a lousy painter or I bought some bad paint, it went on with a whitish tint. I then just sanded that off and said the hell with it. I just put several coats of wax on instead. I did not use a good electric buffer afterward, if I had, I think it would probably look like new.

BTW, I was afraid to sand the lights too, I bought a new set and sanded the spare. I have the old set for sale, btw.

I bought the Meguiars plastic cleaner also and it did little to clean up my lights. Looks like the haze is on the inside of the light. Im thinking about buying new headlights.

Thats what I thought about my old lights too, until I wet sanded them. Like I said before though, the haze is gone, but the gloss from the clear coat is gone also.
