HELP! I GOT KEYED!!!!!
Ok, so I'm a manager at a warehouse and today I had to give the unfortunate news to several temporary employees that I could no longer use them. As was expected, they were extremely unhappy about it, and one of them decided to take a key along the hood of my car on the way out. I was not able to see who did it, but that is the only logical explaination I can come up with.
The scratch is deep enough to go all the way through the clear coat and deep into the paint. It is about 16 - 20 inches long. How easy would this be to repair myself, or do I need to take it to a paint shop? I have read articles saying that if you get a scratch in the hood or quarter panel, that the whole panel should be repainted. Any suggestions on what would be the best approach? I've been told to go through my insurance, but I have a 500 dollar deductible and I don't know if that would be cheaper or not.
Here's what it looks like, hopefully you can see it well enough.

Dang...any cameras in the premise? Anyway, I don't think you can do a home-repair since it seems to be deep. Some other folks may chime in and suggest something different. Anyway, recommend you take to a local shop and see how much they would charge you. Unfortunately, I am afraird that thety would have to paint the whole hood so as to blend in...
I was driving alongside a semi on the freeway last year and something came off the truck's cab and hit my front passenger side quarter panel. Pretty much on the same spot someone keyed your car. It left a foot-long scratch all the way through the paint into the metal underneath. Had to get the whole panel repainted.
At least what happened to my car was an accident. Sorry about your car man. I'd be so mad.

Is the car keyed on the hood or fender? your pic shows the fender. Either way that sucks. If you want the car to look perfect I always say take it to a shop. If you do just ask if they have a down draft spray booth and make sure they use a good paint line like Diamont or Sikkens. If they use crap paint then in a few years it will look terrible.
YEAH...ID LOVE TO SAY THAT WOULD BE THE ONLY SECTION THAT NEEDS TO BE PAINTED, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THE WHOLE HOOD HAS TO BE RE- PAINTED, AS ALL OTHERS SAY....AND YES, THAT SUCKS!!!! GOOD LUCK...AND FIND THAT BASTARD!!!!!!!!!!!

Your best bet on the car is to take it to a few shops and get estimates. Honestly, it will probably be over $500, but maybe not. Also...did you make a Police Report? How many employees did you fire? Was the object used to make the scratch laying around the car? Maybe a piece of glass or something that may hold fingerprints if it wasn't manhandled...just thoughts.
I've detailed cars for side $$ for a few years and 3m makes a product used when they recoat bathtubs that removes scratches but unfortunatley it only works at the clearcoat level. If it is that deep, and considering that you have a newer stang, I would imagine having it proffesionally repaired.
