finally: wax
Ok, I'm beat lol.
Just put first wax on car (got it 3 weeks ago). Til now I've been using Wizards mist and shine on it to keep treesap and bird crap from adhering to the paint. I washed my car after every rain and reapplied it. I wanted to make sure nothing was really sticking to the paint and would be hard to remove later.
The results are fantastic. I used a synthetic polymer stuff called Meguiars nxt tech wax. I had planned to use that as a base and put a carnuba on top of that but I am beat. It will have to wait til next weekend lol.
Here's how it went:
For the final wash before waxing I wet the car down a few times to let the water soak in, then ran it through a touchless car wash. I used a california squeegee to dry the car then went over it with a turtlewax magic pad to touch it up and dry the areas I couldn't get with the squeegee. It was really clean. I thought I might need to run it through the wash again but was surprised at how well it worked. No roughness after drying. I went over the car with a microfiber towel after this and made sure it was really dry. Then I let it sit for about 20 minutes. Water gets between the trim and the body panels and I didn't want water coming out during wax.
I read directions to wax and followed them exactly. I applied a very thin layer of wax to every square inch of paint on entire car and let it dry up for around 10 minutes.
I'm glad I read directions! there were a couple of spots where I put it on a little thicker and it was painful to buff it lol. I used microfiber towels (bought 9 before starting ; ) Where it was a nice thin even coat it buffed out with little effort. A second pass with a clean towel made it pop.
I have an alloy 2007 GT. It's a really dark metallic gray, almost black and it's really deep and rich now.
I have the 18" painted alloy rims that look like hotwheels wheels. They are deep and really catch a lot of rust colored brake dust on the inside but you can see it. I used Gliptone total tire and rim cleaner on it and a soft cleaning brush and it broke loose really easily, back to inner edge of wheels. They lit up! The stuff came off effortlessly. I wet down the tires and rims, then sprayed them up with the tire and rim cleaner. I let it sit for a minute and brushed them as I was rinsing. Wow. It jumped off the wheels.
I mist and shined the wheels after cleaning and applied the Meguiers tire black.
I thought it looked great then drove it home. I was unprepared for how good it looked. People kept staring and I saw one guy mouth "Now that's a f***ing car". I parked it and looked at it again and was pretty impressed myself. I can't wait to get the carnuba on it 8)

Later I took it up to 5000 RPM for the first time. Holy crap this car's a beast. Up to 2000 miles so I let her rip. I never heard a sweeter sound than that engine cutting loose for the first time. I started at pole position on a light, by the time I hit 3000 rpm in third gear, the cars behind me were 1/4 of a mile away.
I now understand the mustang gt.
In other news, I saw a hotrod train. At the head of the pack was a early 80's chevette with a blown 454 in it. The housing for the blower stood a full foot off the hood. The rear wheels looked like they were 2ft deep lol with 10 inch thick drag tires on it. That thing looked ready for the strip. It's probably the coolest chevette on the east coast. Paint looked awesome. I completely brainfarted and forgot to take a picture.
I need to find out where that train was headed. I had the wife and kid in the car and the boy wanted to get home. It was just after we hit Toys R' Us lol. He was anxious.
They were on Rossville boulevard in Rosedale, MD. If anyone knows where that weekly party is, please let me know [8D]
