I wash my vehicles every week. Just make sure you use a good wash mitt and a microfiber to dry with to minimize swirls. Have you claybarred the car yet? I highly recommend doing so if you haven't. Clay will remove all the contaminants out of the paint and make the finish really slick. After that use a good polish to bring out the shine and reflection and then top with a good sealant or wax or both.

I use basically all of the products I carry on my website. They all work great and can be used in the direct sunlight and have no residue. I have a good one step polish, paint cleaner and sealant combo by Optimum that is called Poli Seal. This is truely an awesome product. Also Poorboys Natty's wax and ClearKote carnuba wax is very popular. Check out my website. Everything is currently on sale for the holidays. Let me know if you have any questions.

Here is a list of product I recommend using:

Poorboys Claybar or any over the counter clay
Poorboys Pro Polish or ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze
ClearKote Red Moose Glaze
Poorboys EX sealant far darker colored cars and the EX-P for lighter colored
Poorboy Natty's paste wax or ClearKote Carnuba wax

THese products used together will make the paint look really deep, wet, and reflective

Juztang pretty much summed it up.
Consider getting a Porter Cable random orbital polisher. Using this coupled with a light polish and fine pad will do wonders for your car.

There are several great detailing websites out there if you are looking for specific information you can't find here.

My recommendations for an overall exterior "detail" would be - [*]Wash with a quality soap using the two-bucket method and a quality wash mit (like lambs wool).[*]Clay the car using plenty of lube. (lube can be car wash soap cut down with water. About a cap full to 16 to 20 ounces of water) [*]Re-wash the car.[*]Dry with a waffle weave towel.[*]Use a Porter Cable and the least aggressive pad / polish combination. (adjust as required for any defects)[*]Consider a 50/50 wipe down of Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water to remove any oily residue.[*]Seal with a nice sealant like the Poorboys or Zaino or Rejex or a multitude of others.[*]Top with a carnauba wax like Natty's Blue paste. (this will help add depth).[*]Have a cold beverage and admire your hard work.
