Default I got a new buffer...

For Christmas. I've never used one, this one seems pretty nice and seems strong. What is the best method to use this thing? Any particular types of wax or other products?

What kind of buffer did you get? I got a PC 7424 for Christmas and just turned it loose on the Mustang and it came out awesome. Did you get an assortment of different pads as well?

I got the same thing! I haven't tried it on the Mustang yet, I'll start with the truck and move on from there.

That type of buffer will work good for applying waxes and sealants but won't work too well for paint correction. You need something with a lot more speed to remove swirls and scratches. The Porter Cable is really worth the money. You can get great results and not have to worry about burning up the paint. It is perfect for a beginner.

Either way, that will at least help you out with the application of wax so you won't be left with a claw at the end of the day.

So I use it for the application of the wax? I assumed that I'd put the wax on by hand as usual, and then use a clean bonet to buff the wax out.

What would be the best process to use?

I would use the buffer to apply the wax. I like to buff off by hand with a microfiber towel.

I like to put ClearKote Carnuba wax and PoorboysEX-P sealanton with the buffer. They go on easy and come off easy with no residue. You can also through a glaze into the mix to give your paint that extra pop.

So do you mix the Carnuba and sealant? Or do you put the Carnuba on, buff it off, then do the same with the sealant?

I'm hoping for the mix

Actually you put the sealant on and then top it with the wax. You can't mix them.

I carry an all in one product called Poli Seal by Optimum. It is huge over at Autopia detailing forums. The Poli Seal is a paint cleaner, polish, and sealant all in one. It will also leave your paint very slick feeling. I use this in my detailing business a lot. It saves me a couple of steps and it has great results. I usually top that with Optimum Spray Wax. You just spray it on and wipe it off with a microfiber towel.

There are so many options that produce great results.
