i prefer flowmaster...two or single chamber, ( i have 2 chamber 40's) but to get that nascar sound you seek, you need to do your headers and off road pipe, w/out cats for better flow and sound, if you can get away with it for emissions. if you want max sound over max power, i'd say go with some nice long tube headers, MAC, JDM, Bassani being the best i think. with a nice H pipe, and flowmaster cat back will give you the nastiest mustang on the block. you could always straight pipe it, but you probably wont get but 3 blocks before you get a ticket. i cranked my car up with X pipe out, and it was so loud at idle, i instantly changed my mind about straight pipes. i'd never get on base with them. your going to have to spend some money, your best bet would be to get your headers and off road pipe on Ebay, and have an exhaust shop sell you the mufflers and cat back pipes, but be prepared to spend close to if not more than a grand. if you cant do the headers yourself, a good place like mineke will install all of it for you, at a decent price.

Open headers is the closest you'll get to NASCAR.....straight pipes are a close second.

thanks for the info. I thinnk I'm going with Flow master American thunder. Offroad pipe is out of question, as I'm moving to Ohio next year, and they have E-check, and mirror inspection..

Mity, go with the 40 series trust me, ive heard both american thunder and the 40 series on gt's (well american on a Gt, 40 on a z28) and the 40's sounded much better, they both had off road bassanis so i dont think it was just the diff in engines/headers</P>

I live in Ohio, so I'll give you a hint about E-check.

I've NEVER had anyone look under my car or with a mirror except this last time.....my parents never have, and I've spent my whole life in this s**tty *** state.

You can get X pipes with cat's in them and you'll be golden. As long as you have a cat, pass the emmissions (really hard not to), and your gas cap doesn't leak, you'll pass with flying colors.

Here in WA I've heard that on the newer (96+) OBDII vehicles they're not even doing a visual inspection anymore - just plugging in to your OBDII port and checking to see if you've got any emissions related CEL codes stored....
