headers....good or bad?
I have a pair of headers that I am about to put on my '69 mustang. But I was told today by a respectable mustang guy that unless I was going in to race my car, headers would be unnecessary. He said in the long run the amount of power they add to the car will not be worth all the pain that they will cause me. He said that after a while I will constantly have to deal with exhaust leaks from them. I was just wondering what you guys thought. How much extra power do headers give an engine? Would it be better to skip the headers and just put on dual exhaust? ( I was planning to put on the dual exhaust the same time as the headers). Thanks for the input.
First, tell him he's a retard.
Second, if he did create the fear of leaks, just pick up some thicker gaskets and locking bolts and you will be fine.
Once you do headers, you open the door for every bolt-on modification to perform to it's fullest.

I think everyone here would agree that headers are one of the best bolt on mods you can do for your car. i have them, and the added sound alone is worth it. sets your car apart. nothing in this world sounds like a mustang with headers.

You CAN gain over 40 horses depending on what you have done to the motor to start off with. The exhaust leaks he's thinking that "will" occur usually happen because a nut came loose off a stud from motor vibrations, which is why they invented locking header bolts.
I say get headers and exhaust.....and juice.......boost.....gears.............heads..... ......
Have had my headers on for eight years and no leaks, big improvement in (seat of the pants) horse power. You will notice an improvement immediately, whether you get the dual exhaust or not (I would).
