Default I've got swirlage!!!

So I dropped the Roush off at Ford today (after 18 months and 2 AZ summers the battery said "NO MAS!", so that was a few hours out of my morning waiting for the wife to come back and give me a jump....get your minds out of the gutter!!!!)

Anyway, it was sitting in the sun at the dealership when the service advisor was doing his thing and I noticed that I have a decent amount of swirlling going on!!! I was wondering is there anything that I can do to rectify the situation....it IS in desperate need of a wax, but then again (I am in desperate need of time to do it)....

Any thoughts????

was your car buffed at anytime because that damages the clear coat if done to rough and that will take some work.

Clay Bar, Polish, and work from there

The detailing section has some decent information. Check here for more http://autogeek.net/

Give it a real good wash job. Now put on a coat of glaze. Get a good name brand. And when your done with that put on a coat of your favorite wax. Follow all the directions. I like Mothers & Zymol or Mequires. And try to put on a few coats of wax in the nextcouple months for protection & shine. Those swirlscan't be removed (in the clear coat) but the glaze hides them.

Currently owning a black truck I have fought the battle of swirls on a daily basis. Now in the past when I used to live in Hawaii Waterless Car Wash works miracles - having run out and now in Cali Meguires Scratch-X is a good substitute and then I top it off with Turtle Wax Ice (in the spray bottle).[/align]

1st to reduce swirl marks always cool the surface with water and never wash it in the sun, heat softens the clearcoat and makes it easier to scratch,Depending on how bad they are,you can have them buffed out. There is many compounds and buffing pads, that a professional can use to remove them, but on a black daily driver it's near impossiable to keep them gone.

This is the best stuff I have ever used in my 46 years of life. Whether you use it or not is your choice.

Swirl marks are caused almost entirely by improper washing and waxing. They are circular scratches in the clearcoat and while some waxes/polishes will fill these temporarily so that they are not as visible with the reflection of light.

I am intentionally not mentioning any products here; you can swirl up new clearcoat easily by incorrectly using the best of products. Check all the threads out here for opinions on product choices; I'm not going there.

First have a professional detailer who is expert with a rotary buffer remove them, then do not do any of the following:
- attempt to buff them out yourself (unless you are the pro with the rotary buffer)
- wash or wax in a circular motion.
- wait until wax driescompletely to a haze before removal, only very slight hazing (10-15 mins, indoors).
-take the car to a carwash
- wash, dry or wax infull sun.

A few things to do asa routine:
- Rinse thoroughly top to bottom before beginning to wash
- Use a quality autowashing soap (no home detergent)
- Use two buckets (screen in primary bucket is a good small investment). Use second bucket to rinsemicro-fiber mittbefore grabbing sudsy waterfrom the first.
- Wash dirtiest areas last.
- Use lengthwise light strokes (practically letting the suds and water do the dirt removal), nothing circular.
- Remove nozzel for a final "sheet rinse" (top down, front back)
- Dry with cloth, chamois, blade of your choice (indoors if at all possible)
- Use detailers wax in between your lengthy complete wax applications

There are a few add'l minor things you can also do, but this approach will keep your newly swirl free finish exactly that way.
