So I found a really good deal on the Porter Cable 7424 ($99) and I want to get a good clay, celaner, polish, wax etc. Is there a general consensus on what is the best brand?

I was looking at

Clay Magic clay bar
Sonus carwash, swirl remover/polish
Klasse polish
P21S Carnuba wax

While I think I would be happy with that combination I was looking to see if there was a product line that would serve all my needs. Opinions?

RE: What brand of clay/polish/wax
Are you needing any pads and backing plate for the Porter Cable? If so, I have a nice starter kit that has everything needed to get started.

I also highly recommend the Optimum line of polishes for the Porter Cable. They do not dust like most polishes and can be worked in longer without drying out. Optimum is huge over at the Autopia.org detailing forums. Next I would recommend using the ClearKote Red Moose glaze. This will make the paint look wet and deep. Now you can top with Poorboys EX-P Sealant. This will add good durability and nice reflection. Finally I would top with Poorboys Natty's blue or ClearKote Carnuba Wax. I have a lot of people that love this combo. It will make your paint look deep, wet, and reflective. Let me know if you have any product questions. Check out my website at www.obsessivedetail.com

By the way, check out this section over at Fnsweet. This is another forum I sponsor. There are a lot of my customers pictuers on there. You can see results different people have gotten.

Yes I would also need pads and backing plate. All I really have is the Portter Cable. Thanks for the links I will check them out. Do you have any package deals over at obsessivedetail?

Yes, I have the Porter Cable starter kit. It includes a 5 inch flexible backing plate, orange light cutting pad,2 white polishing pads, and a gray finishing pad.

I also have different package deals for each manufacturer that I carry. I highly recommend the Poorobys Package at the bottom of the Poorboys page.

I have a fairly dark blue mustang so I am not sure if that factors in but which of the brands do you personally like more? Poorboys or Optimum?

I would use the Optimum for your polish with the Porter Cable. For your sealant I like the Poorboys EX-P because it gives a lot of reflection and brightness. Both Poorboys Natty's blue and ClearKote Carnuba Wax both look good on dark colored cars. The Natty's is a paste wax and the ClearKote is a liquid wax. It is really your preference if you like liquid or paste waxes.

I have used PB EX topped with PB NB with nice results.
The NB gives the darker color cars a little something extra while the EX provides nice protection.

RE: What brand of clay/polish/wax
The best is subjective.
What I like, you may not.
What works well on my car might be too aggressive for your car.

There are tons of producst available out there. I have spent a nice chunk of change on different products. I've found stuff I don't like and stuff I love. Different cars respond differently to the same products.

For the clay bar, I really like "Clay Magic" clay. I use the "Fine Grade" which is blue in color. You typically get two bars of clay in the case and I think it runs about $25.00.
You can get a kit (Meguiars or Mothers) from your local auto parts store or wallyworld for about $15.00. It includes one bar and the lube. You can make your own lube with car wash soap and water in a spray bottle if you need too.

My "best" polish is a mix of two polishes, High Temp Extreme Cut and Optimum Polish mixed 50/50.
The "best" finishing polish I have used is Menzerna 106FF.

You will be very happy with the Optimum line of polishes (or even the Poorboy's line).
Optimum dusts a lot less than Poorboys (although PB smells really good)
I have used from the PB SSR2.5 down to the SSR1. The SSR 2.5 is fairly aggressive but finishes out nicely with the PC and an orange pad. I have used the Optimum Compound and Optimum Polish - both nice. The dust less than the PB, but I tend to like the PB better. Maybe its the bottle or the nice smell - I don't know. To me, they work about the same.

Check over on autopia.org and click on the "Learn" box link at the top of the page.
Another site to check is properautocare.com

Consider topping with Poorboys EX.
It is easy to apply with a PC and a finishing pad.
It wipes off easy with a micro fiber towel.
Nice synthetic with good longevity.

You can also top with "Insulator Wax #845".
I have used it on a few cars with good results.
Its easy to apply with the PC and a finishing pad.
I saw some at my local "Advance Auto Parts" store last night in the marine section.
It was about $12.00.

If funds permit I would suggest Zaino Z5 Pro for your dark colored car.
http://www.zainostore.com
I love the Zaino products and the great customer support.
I have used several of the Zaino products and they are all great.
My latest favorite toppers are Zaino Z2 (or 5) Pro, Zaino Clear Seal and Zaino Z8 all layered in that order.

Juztang will get you hooked up and treat you right with all your products and tooling.

Don't forget to show us some pics. [8D]
