Default Rusting rock chip

I was washing my car the other day and on the top of my car I found a single rock chip that is rusting on the inside of it.

If I cover the chip with touchup paint will it stop the spread of the rust? The paint around the chip looks perfect, so I don't want to sand and make it worse and actually noticeable.

How long has it been there? Are you sure its rust and not just the primer? I would guess if it is fairly new you are just seeing some simple surface rust starting. You should be able to get a chemical rust remover and dab in there to clean it up before touching it up. I wouldn't think it would cause any future problems.

I'm sure it is just surface rust, but it is definitely rust. I'll try some of that remover, I had forgot about it until now, but I know I have seen it.

After the rust remover go ahead and touch up the chip to prevent future rust from returning...I am sure you knew that though.
