Default color suggestions

I'm going to be putting My 91 hatch in for paint in about 1 to 2 weeks when ever I get it back from the shop and get some welding and exhaust adjusted. I'm going back with red but I was needing suggestions on what color red flake or no flake. Suggestions please.

I'd do either stock red or viper red, with flake.

If you add a metallic flake to the factory red, you'll end up with metallic pink. If you want a mild sparkle, ask the painter to add a few additional coats of red pearl over the factory red basecoat. If you want real "flake" like a bassboat, you'll have to order some House of Kolor stuff. You'll get the nicest red from laying out a silver mini flake over silver basecoat, and then using their red candy -- I forget what they call it, but it looks like blood in a can-- to lay over the top. It will take a couple quarts of red candy to cover, but the results are fab.

People say things like "viper red" or "guards red" or "cherry red". They are or were at one point in time actual manufacturer's color names. I think it all boils down to what people think is a true, deep red. IMO, if you want a rich red, take a look at Mercedes "590". It's what they put on the SLK 500s, and it's amazing. Or, Honda has "R-81", which is also rich. The way it works is that you have a clean true red (which is honestly too bright) , and then you add either orange to make it more tomato red, or magenta to make it a deeper cherry-like red. More magenta means deeper color. Now you can teach your painter something.
