Michigan Window Tinting
hey guys, ive been waiting for a while to get my windows tinted on my 04 but havent been able to decide what % to get. in michigan i can get my rear and back windows tinted as dark as i want but there isn't allowed to be any tint on the front windows aside from a 4inch border around the window (which looks like ****) although, many people do tint their front windows. now im thinking im either going to 5% the rear windows and lightly tint the front windows (not sure what percentage i wouldnt get pulled over for) or if i should just go for the lighter tint all the way around, im not sure what would look better. any input would be appreciated
hmm...that's really up to you. sounds like there's a possibility of a ticket with tint on the front. if you're not prepared to pay a ticket i wouldn't do anything illegal
with that being said, all 3 of my vehicles have illegal tint on them (below legal % and the fullwindshields on all 3). it's just a risk i'm willing to take

i live in michigan also and i got 5% on the back and 20% on the front. and i did get pulled over. the cop told me the darkest you can get is 35% for the front which dosent do much anyways. but it is better then nothing. altho i didnt get a ticket, just a warning, i still took my tint off. so its pretty much up to you if you want to risk a ticket or just get some less percentage stuff.
Here's the law in Michigan.
Get WHATEVER tint you want.
Take it to a place to get it tinted.
If you're near Westland or Wayne, go to Nitrous Tintz or Nitrouz Tints or something
Buy the "insurance"
When the cop pulls you over, he writes you a ticket.
Take it to the police station with the window tint off.
He voids the ticket.
Take it back to the tinting place and they'll put the tint back on for FREE as MANY times as you get pulled

Here is the law in Michigan.
A driver shall not have:
(1)...Any transparent material, window application, reflective film upon or in the front windshield, the side windows immediately adjacent to the driver or front passenger, or the sidewings adjacent to and forward of the driver or front passenger. Except that a tinted film may be used along the top edge of the windshield and the side windows or sidewings immediately adjacent to the driver or front passenger if the material does not extend more than 4 inches from the top of the windshield, or lower than the shade band, whichever is closer to the top of the windshield.
(2)A rear window or side window to the rear of the driver composed of, covered by or treated with a material that creates a total solar reflectance of 35% or more in the visible light range, including silver or gold reflective film.
In Laymans terms.
You can only tint the top 4 inches of the windshield and side windows. You can tint the quarter window and rear window up to a 35% tint and be legal.
Honestly, with the exception of the M.S.P., and depending on where you live, most won't say anything about how dark your rear windows are. The whole idea is to be able to see you in the side windows for safety if they see you go by or are approaching the car on a traffic stop.

hey beastgt thanks for the tip and NVR4GIT i dunno where you got that info but im pretty sure thats wrong, ive seen multiple times on multiple michigan official websites that rear windows can be tinted as dark as you want. anyway tomorrow morning im getting my tint done, they offer a liftime guarantee and they're doin the rear and sides for $199. as of right now im still not sure which percentage i want but probably 5% rear and 30 or 35% sides
