Default Detailing Engine Help

I have been wanting to do a deep clean on my 06 GT's engine, but I don't know what to use (new to detailing) and don't know what to tape off or what not to get wet. I haven't been posting a lot on this forum because I am a little shy. If anyone can offer some detailing advice for the engine and maybe the interior, that would be great. Thanks.

I second this post, I see "Engine Cleaner" at the carwash, but I'd never use that on my car.
Can't be good to get the battery wet eh?

I spray an all purpose cleaner/degreaser on the whole engine and let it sit fora few minutes. Then for stubborn areas I use a brush to agitate and break everything up. Next I spray down the engine with light pressure, there is no need to use a lot of pressure. On the newer engines I don't even cover anything up. Just don't spray directly on the alternator and other electrical components. Once I rinse everything off I close the hood and turn the engine on and let it run for a few minutes to dry everything off. Lastly I use a dressing on all of the plastic parts.
