Default First time do it yourself tinting.. tips?

So im thinking this weekend i might go out to autozone and buy a roll of 20% and try and tint my mustang.. My question i guess is I have never done this.

So what is involved?

I have the jist of it, lightly soapy water on the window.. Apply tint over it.. move into position.. Squeegy out the water... let dry.. Cut along edge. leave window up for a week to cure/dry/finalize.

I would love some tips or maybe just a general how to on do it yourself tinting.

Thanks!

dont bother trying the rear window...it wont work.

but the others are really easy and anyone can do them.
but ive never waited until the tint dried before i trimmed it.
but it shouldnt matter which way you do it.

It's not easy. Don't plan on it being flawless, either. If you can, take the windows out of the doors, it will make life so much easier for you. Otherwise, just roll down the window, do the top half, then roll it up and do the bottom half, and tuck a little bit of the tint in between the molding and the window.

Oh, and use two pieces of tape to separate the tint from the plastic. I probably spent a good half hour trying to do it by hand with no luck.

Make a solution of about 20oz water, 1/4tsp dish soap, and 1/2tsp rubbing alcohol and KEEP IT WET til you get it in place then squegee all the water out. Be extremely patient. Rear window will be a huge pain and a heat gun is a must.

Just be wary of possible air bubbles. You don't want those solidifying. Be liberal with the soapy water. :]

It's cheap to have it done, I don't think I'd bother trying on my own. To get the tint cut perfect is not easy, I tryed it on my '85 Citation back in the day.

I don't know to much about tinting, but from what I've seen from people that do it themselves, their tint always bubbles. Maybe they didn't do it right or something. I don't know. I know I would have it taken to a shop to get done just to be safe though. Good luck to ya.

I wonderif the money you'll save vs. the aggravation you'll endure will be worth it.
