Default Making it a convertible.....

Hey everyone..
I'am in the process of buying a 2003 Mustang GT...

I just want to know if anyone knows AROUND how much it will cost to have it made into a convertible or if its just a bad idea all the way around..I know it's going to cost a little bit, lol, but I just want to know if i should or not since i plan on keeping the car for a long time.

I look forward to hearing your replies!
Thank!

Is this a real question or a really bad joke? Just buy a convertible!

... oh god....

Worst idea EVER

It would be much cheeper, easier, safer and more professional to buy a convertable if you want one.

Convertables are designed to be convertables. They have stronger frames/ bodythat are ment to take the stress of a car without a roof. Coupes are designed to be lighter and support the center of the car car betwean the front and rear wheels. If you cut the roof without doing any work to the frame/ body of the car the car will fold in the middle.

Just but one instead.

You could look into converting it into a targa top, it would be expensive, but much better than the hassle of converting a coupe into a vert.

Your better off asking this question in a hot rodders forum where they have more guts when it comes to custom fabrication. Had a neighbor of mine just cut off his roof with a skill saw on his 80 some malibu. Said he was tired of the desert heat. It typically only rained once or twice a year in the mojave so that worked out for him, but you probably want something a little cleaner looking. I suppose it could be done if you reinforced the frame with some subframe connectors, some strut tower braces, and then made a clean cut, welded in some gaps and found some suitable seals so you have a removable hard top instead of a drop on the switch top. But at that point it would be too big of a top to be able to get it on and off by yourself.

The posts before me are right... just buy a convertible, if you can't at the time, just enjoy the one you have and make the best of it til you can buy a vert. I guess my point is, if you really want to go through the work, it can be done, but with so many other convertible stangs available, why go through the hassle. It would be a whole nother story if it was a model car that didn't come with a convertible option, like a SC Thunderbird. Now that would be sweet

Guts or not. If you need to ask about doing this to your car you defenetley cant do it yourself.

Ever think about a sun roof?

I think a targa top would be sweet even though other mustang owners would think it is unethical. i have seen a picture of one before but doesnt it have some structural effect on the frame?

Yeah, the chassis will become weaker but the kit I saw included subframe connectors, I can't find the link right now but the roof is what gives the body the most rigidity since it's connecting the sides together as well as the front of the car to the back. But targa top stangs look sweet because you don't see them around as much.

Here's the link converting your coupe into a targa top. It's $3,000 but it gives you the option of getting a carbon fiber top and it includes the subframes. This is the best kit that includes the latches and everything but there are other cheaper kits out there but just remember, you get what you pay for.

That kit looks good... I would consider it if I dident race my car and want to get some serious speeds out of it.

Ive googled and googled... Does someone have a link to a sunroof kit site?
