Ok, we use this stuff called Micro Mesh in the Air Forcefor polishing the wind screans of aircraft, everything from C130's (Hurks)to CF118's (F 18).

It may be a little more then what you need...It is MUCH more then what you needbut it works DAMN GOOD considering any blemish or spec is dangeous when working with a canopy on an aircraft.

Ive no idea what it costs (never had to buy it) however I have herd rumors of a polish compound for head lights and etc for cars. Never used that thoe.

Basically, you need to wet sand them going from about 600 to 2000 grits and finish with Meguiars PlastX polish

I started with 400 and I haven't been able to find the other needed grits yet... but it is already doing what I need on mine.

Here's an old detailer's trick....toothpaste! Put it on a cloth, rub it into the plastic, let it dry and buff out. Try this first as it's free since you should have toothpaste and a cloth. Then follow up with wax of your choice. If that doesn't work then try the specialized products and/or wet sand them.

I had a similar problem with my car, it was bothering me. Its not a mustang, and by nature the headlights really stand out when you look at the front of the car so it looked really bad. I first tried a permatex kit, and it didnt really help all that much. I did some research and found that mothers could help it out, so I tried it. Worked alright, but it was alot of work and still didnt do the job totally. Then I westsanded it and polished with mothers, but still no luck.

Then I walked into an autoparts store close to where I work and came across a headlight restoring "kit" made by Symtech http://www.symtechcorp.net/index.cfm It was like 30$, but god damn it worked amazingly. It has multiple parts to it, but basically there are two cleaners, a buffing paste, wet sanding paper and a sealer. Unfortunatly I do not have before pics but my headlights look like the day I bought the car. Being that I am a mechanic I can get AMAZING discounts through work, but my lights would have cost me over 200$ a piece AFTERMARKET with my discount, so I tried a kit. I would have paid 100$ or more for this kit it worked so well.

If you can find one, buy it, it did an amazing job.

This may sound really stupid, but Im having the hardest time trying to get the foglights to turn on. I have a 2001 GT, my first mustang and I cant find a thread in this forum that talks about foglights in particular, like this thread. My car(used) didnt come with a owners manual, but i downloaded one online and its doesnt really help. DO i need to have the highbeams on , for the foglights to be functional?

you just need to have your low-beams on for your foglights to turn on. they will automatically turn off when you turn your high beams on. you can wire them where they will turn on anytime the car is on. there are a couple different ways to do it. but from the factory they should come on only when you have your low beams on as well.

This is exactly what I did with my 01. Try it, if you don't like the results, time to get out the Visa card
