Default Wax Residue on Trim?...

Hey Guys,

What the hell should I use to get the white wax residue off of the plastic trim around the windows and such? A supposedly "very-nice" place did the wax job for me while I had lunch, and it sucked. Well... the shinyparts of the car look nice. :-)

Thanks for any answers. -Mark

Small shop rag and some wd-40...it will disolve the residue and leave your trim stripped of any chemicals, so you will want to apply some armor all or something similar when done. Just keep the wd40 and armor all off the paint

wd40 is bad for the paint? or it will take the wax off the paint?

Its not bad necessarily, but I THINK it will remove the wax....but it looks like poop on your paint just like armor all does [8D]

My standby recommendation is Back-to-Black by Mothers -- of course, it's best to apply it first to repel wax.

If that doesn't work, you can try a warm sudsy soap solution and a toothbrush or gentle detail brush, followed by Back-to-Black.

3M also has a Adhesive and Wax Removal product, but it's a tad pricey.

Eventually it'll disappear, but either of those methods are safe.

Best thing I found is a pink rubber eraser like the kid use in school. Just rubs the crap right out and leaves no resedue.

my recomendation would be Laquer Thiner. Buy a small can and barely rub the trim. Wax will come right off. I do it all the time. I would at a detail shop in Denver

Sometimes I get wax on my trim too. I use Aerospace 303 Protectant. It not only removed the wax, but it brings out the color of the trim and protects it too! 303 is good on tires as well. It doesn't attract dirt like many of the other tire dressings. I also use it on my vinyl stripe.
You can purchase it at any Marine or Boat store.

It's hard because more of the stuff that seems to remove the wax only covers it up to look good for a while. Erasers work like mentioned earlier. I use Stoner Trim Cleaner a lot and a soft tooth brush or Oil Flo.

Oh, and the very best thing to do is tape off your trim before waxing. It might sound like a pain but I promise you it will actually be faster than removing wax residue.
