help for a novice
ok, heres the deal
I have a 07 torch red convertible with dual black racing strips from front to back. the car is under a carport 90% of the time and driven about 300 miles a month. All I have been doing is washing the car about once a week. Lately I notice swirl marks, not heavy, on the paint, but mostly on the black strips. What should I do as far as a good proceedure on this car, and would i do something different on the stripes?
Thanks!

A lot of the time swirls come from inproper washing and drying. Make sure you are using a good quality wash mitt and good quality microfiber towels to dry with. To minimize dirt transfer when you are washing you can use the 2 bucket method. Have one bucket for your rinse water and another bucket for your solution. Wash a panel and then rinse it out real good in your rinse water and then dip it back in your solution and do another panel. Do this for the whole car. To dry I would recommend using a good quality waffle weave or dedicated drying towel like my Amazing Dryer. This will hold up to 10 times its weight in water and is safter to use than a chamois.
I wouldn't do anything different on the stripes, just follow the same procedure.

Ok, so basically you are wanting to do the full detail. Here is what I would recommend with the products too:
First off you want to wash the whole car using the basic method or the 2 bucket method, your choice. I highly recommend my microfiber wash mitt or sponge. Now you are ready to claybar. You want to use a quick detailer of clay lube as your lubricant, spray a generous amonth of lube on about a 2x2 section. Let the claybar glide over the surface until it becomes really slick, there is no need to apply any pressure. Wipe off the quick detailer with a microfiber towel.
Now you are ready for polishing and swirl removal. The most popular machine to use is the Porter Cable 7424. This is very popular with all of the members here as well. This machine is completely safe on the paint and you can get excellent results. I have Porter Cable kits that have everything you need. Ex: Porter Cable, backing plate, orange light cutting pad, white polishing pad, finishing pad, medium polish and a light cutting/finishing polish.
If you go to my website in the links section there is a place called Paint Care and Detailing. There are some vidoes on how to use the Porter Cable and how to break down polishes properly. This will really help you out.
After you are done removing swirls and scratches I also recommend using a glaze. My Wet Glaze will add a ton of wetness and depth to your plaint plus even add more slickness.
Now you are ready to apply a sealant or wax or both. This is personal preference. A sealant will add a lot of durability and have a glossy and bright look but kinda lack the depth of a carnuaba wax. I like to put a sealant on first and then top it with a carnauba for maximum durabilty and looks. Right now Optimum Opti-Seal is a huge seller. With this sealant you just wipe on and walk away, there is no need to buff off, it just dissappears. This offers great durability with great looks. This is one of my favorite sealants.
For a good carnauba wax you can't go wrong with Poorboys Natty's blue or my Wet Wax. These will both add more depth and wetness plus protection.
All of the products I carry are easy on easy off with no residue. You can even apply them in the sun without any problems. Feel free to contact me at 217-304-7294 if you have anymore questions I can help you with. I'm now offering a 10% discount for mustang forums members.
