For the engine compartment I HIGHLY recommend P21S Total Auto Wash. It is very safe and effective on cleaning the engine. Once the engine is cleaned and dried spray it down with 303 Aerospace Protectant. You will be pleased with the outcome.

I just spray all purpose cleaner/degreaser on the engine and let it dwell for a few minutes, then I come back amd agitate it with a brush. The spray off lightly with a hose. In the past I use CD2 to dress the engine, now it is getting hard to find. I've been using my Silk Shine Dressing on the engine lately and it works great too. I just spray it on the engine while it is still wet. Then close the hood and let the vehicle run fora few minutes, turn it off and pop the hood and your engine will look new again!

You want to be careful to amke sur ethe cleaner/degreaser you are using isn't going to oxidize the metal or turn the rubber and plastic white. One thing I tell everyone is to stay away from Simple Green in the engine and wheels.

Yes Simple Green can be harsh. My APC/Degreaser is completely safe on engines, it won't hurt the metal, rubber, etc...

All I did to protect the coil packs/alternator, etc. was stuff paper towels around them. Then I just used as little water as possible. It worked like a charm.

R6 (If you are still watching the thread...), I just gave my engine bay a quick cleaning yesterday. I stuffed papertowels around the coil packs and alternator (May not even be necessary, I was just being safe) sprayed down some degreaser and brushed with toothbrush, rinsed with water, let it dry a bit and then used armor all on the plastics and rubbers.

Easy as pie:
