Default Painting Valve Covers

I want to dress up my engine compartment after my PI Swap and make it really look nice since I will clean everything when the motor is apart. Is there a way I could paint the valve covers. I was thinking like a silver or red, just to to make the motor stand out more in the sea of black plastic and rubber lol. Is this possible and would it look good?

You sure can, just make sure to rough sand the valve cover good to give the paint a good surface to stick to. Make sure you clean them real good with a good grease/wax removing solvent before and after sanding. I would try 400 grit as far as sand paper goes and a good solvent would probably laquer thinner or acetone. Just make sure you get it as clean as possible. Any hint of oil, even more so on plastic will make the paint fish eye like crazy. I would try a paint store and see if they can get you some good durable plastic surface paint as well just to be safe.

Did you consider having them chromed? Or after sanding them down to bare metal spray them with a clear coat like acrylic or polyurethane?
Just a thought.
