Hey, what is the best, non-staining, non- greasy / oilysolution to keeping the tires nice and black? Tried Armorall Spray, Son of a Gun Spray, and Tire Foam before on other tires but it seemed to leave a discoloration if you didn't apply it all the time. Don't want to discolor the tires, also don't want to apply stuff every other day. We get a lot of blowing dust here, even though the car is in the garage, it still gets covered in dust! So don't want oily stuff that the dust will stick to. Jeez, I'msounding pretty picky! Any ideas???

 

i usually use tire foam but recently applied some mcguire's rubber/vinyl protectant and they still look shiny black. can't go wrong with mcguire's products.

 

I use westley's bleche-wite tire cleaner,and the mcguires natural shine vinyl and rubber protectant(same as sancho i thinks).I like that clean low lustre look myself also.

The meguiars also serves a nice secondary purpose on my vinyl stripes(final wipe with soft paper towel)

 

Hell, i've heard that people wax their rims, maybe you can wax the sidewall to after you use the foam on it.

 

And after a week or so, once the product is wearing off, your tires aren't discolored?

Seems like here, the tire stuff only lasts a week or so before the tires look like nothing was put on them to begin withand road dust is stuck to it. Was kind of looking for a long lasting cure, something to last between washes or every other wash? On my tires before, once the tire stuff wore off the tires looked like they have a pink / browntint to them, discolored.

Just got new tires and don't want to be stuck in a situation of colored tires.

Ya,a week is a good estimate of how long it lasts depending on weather.It takes all of 10 minutes for me to do.When i wash my stang once a week i do the tire cleaner there.Anything i have tried that lasts longer does seem to have residual effect and pain to get off the tires.This just makes them look real newlike,not glassy at all.Cheap multipurpose use.I'm all ears for other products too.

 

Try Aerospace 303. You can get it from any boat supply store. I've noticedit doesn't attract dust and dirt like Armoral. You can also use it on Vinyl or Fiberglass.

Regarding the discoloration I assume you are talking about the brownish color. I always understood this to come from the heat generated in the tire. Different tires compunds react differently and of course the faster you drive the more heat they will experience. What tires do you have on the car?

I totally agree, use a good tire cleaner or even a strong household cleaner/detergent on the tires first to scrub off the brown. Then 2 applications of the mcguire's for a nice natural non glossy, non greasy look. The mcguire's is petroleum based, not silicone based so it doesn't have that slippery look & feel. Since the tires are also petrolum based it soaks in and conditions them as well.

I had the stock BF Goodrich, sold them and just put onbrand newPirellis. The BF's were brownish tinted, even after I put tire foam & armorall on them , within a few days you could see the brown showing thru. Haven't put anything on the Pirellis yet, wanted to research the idea so that I don't end up staining the tires. We have currently have 3 cars total, and the others have never had anything applied to the tires and never had brownish coloring either, so not thinking it is heat induced.
Will further investigate the McGuires, used there spray wax & detail stuff before and never had problems, so will check into the tire product.

I use Zaino perfect tire shine on any and all rubber in the engine bay and the tires!
