Default need help, dont know much about detailing

Hey guys, I don't know almost anything about detailing cars. all I know about it is clay bar and waxing and color sanding but have never tried color sanding or clay bar.
I have a black 89 mustang and from idiots leaning agenst my car there are small light scratches in my quarter panel from the buttens on their jeans. Done and overwith and they will never.. ever lean agenst my car again.
What can I do to possibly try to minimize this as much as possible? If you have any suggestions I can test it out first on my bumper because I destroyed it and am waiting to have my new bumper painted.
I know there are ways to check if my paint has clear coat or not but I don't know how or why that would help??

Thanks in advance for any help

first off do you have any pictures of the bumper? can you feel the scratches with your finger nail?

the only way to remove spider webbing and scratches is with a machine, a good one to use is the porter cable 7424.
this is a really safe polisher that can be used safely by a novice. i doubt wetsanding is what you want to be doing as a novice, its some pretty tuff stuff to master. heres what i'd do

wash the car
clay
polish with OD light polish via white pad
seal with OD wetwax or NAtty's blue paste wax

the scratches arent in the bumper that im worried about, the bumpers destroyed so thats why I'm not worried about the scratches in that. I have a new bumper that just needs to be painted but the paint shop wants 1500 just for gloss black paint when the bumpers not even on the car, is that right?
The scratches I'm trying to remove are in my quarter panel, I can feel them with my finger nail but barely. What I've been trying is the new turtle wax(i know its the cheepest stuff you can get but its what I have) its supposed to color match the paint but it hasnt been working good by hand, should I try and orbital buffer?

Id find another bodyshop if they want that much to paint a panel. Front bumpers need to be taken off the car anyways to be able to reach all the nooks and crevices on a front bumper for superior quality. But that should not run you 1500.00. I'd look for more body shop quotes. Even with good paint such a ppg and dupont. Those are the paint types you want to look for are those kinds because they are great quality.

thats what I was thinking, I've heard of people getting good quality paing jobs for the entire job including prep for $700 but I cant find anywhere, I haven't tried cities yet but i will try soon.

What do you think the price should be? I already have the bumper off the car.

wax is used to protect the paint not remove light scratches, thats what a polish is for.

I'm thinking 400-600 for complete prep of the bumper and painted. Craigslist bodyshops in your area or pull out the yellow pages. And start looking for shops in your area. I paid 4,000.00 for my paint job on my old car. And that was with front and rear bumper taken off , mirrors , side skirts , sun roof out , hood off. They quoted you 1500.00 for 1 piece thats just out of this world.

allright what would be a good quality polish to take out those scratches and how should I apply the polish? by hand or using a buffer? and if a buffer( i have a really cheep kragen buffer) what type of cover should i get? Mine uses the little things that stretch over the foam.

I'll start looking around moore thanks for letting me know that, that was way off I knew It couldn't have been that much but I dont know anything about painting or body work.
