If you use a higher grit it will get the little scratches out and bring back the shine. Depending on the polish you have, there are some that will definitely get out 2000 and even 1500 grit scratches, or you can use some 3000 grit like Justin recommended if you can find it. I couldn't find anything higher than 2000 around here, but it worked just fine. Just take it slow so you don't remove any more of your clear coat than you have to.

One more thing to point out:

Be VERY careful around edges or curves. Its really easy to sand down to the metal when youre going around an edge, since all the sandpaper is touching is just on top of that edge. I've had to repaint whole fenders and hoods because of that.

I try to not even go over the edge of i can help it. If you do, use almost no pressure at all. Same with the buffer and rubbing compound, it can do the same thing.

well i couldnt find any place that had higher than 2000 grit sandpaper so i just ended up taking it to a local shop, i had to get some louvers painted anyways, it came out to be 200 bucks to take off all the overspray from a hood and front bumper and to paint the louvers. they guy started to wet sand a part of the hood with 1500 grit paper and it came out the exact same way mine did he said he would go over it with finer paper and then polish and wax it to give it optimum shine

Not a bad price considering he's painting the louvers too. Hope it comes out well.
