Default Need help with rock chips

The front of my car is torn to hell. Road debris, dirt and rocks have destroyed the paint on the hood and bumper. I'm replacing the bumper soon, but not the hood. I wanted to know if getting some touch-up paint would be a good idea, or just make it look worse. Also, if that would not be a good idea, how about if after I use the touch-up paint I hit it with some abrasive and then chemical polishes with a porter cable, then wax it?

Any help is appreciated.

im about to fix up the two dozen or so rock chips on my hood as well. From what I have read, prepping the surface is important and applying thin layers of touch up, then wet sand until its level and polish it.

Might have to wait a month or so before applying wax on the repaired area

Do you have to wet sand the entire hood, or just the areas you touch-up? Also, for prep, is it just a matter of sanding the area to be painted? I would take it somewhere to get done professionally, but I already did that once before and have the same problem again now. I would like to know if I could do it myself over a weekend before dropping money into a car I intend to sell in the not-too-distant future.
