Default Under the hood detailing

Hello Everyone

I'm pretty new on here, but have a question about deatailing under the hood. The outside of my car is pretty well protected with meguires and optimum products. My questions is, what products and method to you use to keep the underside of the hood clean and protected. Right now my car has the underhood protecter on it. This is also pretty dirty. How do you clean this or do you just remove it?

Thanks Ian

I take mine to the quarter car wash and use the stuff that they have. I do it every other time I wash the car. Or spray it with GUNK if it's really bad like a tome of oil leaks

Try some CD2 engine detailer, makes things look nice under the hood. You should be able to find it at any auto parts store.

You want to use an all purpose cleaner to clean the engine before you put on a dressing. Make sure the all purpose cleaner you use has a low PH so you don't harm any parts of your engine.

First spray on your all purpose cleaner and let it dwell for a few minutes, you also might want to take a brush and agitate the really bad areas. Next, take your hose and lightly spray everything off. Now you can spray on your engine dressing while the engine is still wet or you can let it dry and then apply the dressing. I apply dressing while the engine is still wet, this gives a nice factory look.

To dry everything off, drop the hood and let the engine run for about 5 minutes.

For dressing CD2 works really well. I use CD2 and my Silk Shine Dressing. Stoner Trim Shine also works really well. You don't want to use a product that is greasy and attracts dust and dirt.

There's not much help for a dirty insulator pad.....that stuff just falls apart when it gets wet. Unless you are going for a concourse correct show car...remove it and be done. For MOST of the 'stangs out there you can still buy new ones or OEM replacements if ever want to put one back on - but once they are greasy and dirty I don't think there is a cure.

Now I'm speaking from Fox body experience....maybe the material on the newer cars is better and cleanable

I use Lexol for the rubber and plastic. Cleans, hydrates, protects, and keeps it looking nice for months(and I drive 600mi a week).
