smoked taillights
Something like this?

As to whether they are legal or not, the correct answer seems to be, "No, but, then again, the cops won't bother you 99% of the time anyway unless you are too outrageous so don't worry about it." Or something to that effect. See thread here in which we debated this very issue in Texas. We even had a Houston cop join in. The net net: do it. https://mustangforums.com/m_498588/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm

Which looks better??
Which looks better??

We've always thought the Mustang lenses look good darker because they are almost maraschino cherry red from the factory.
Go Smoke, though, not Stealth (Dark) Smoke, unless the car is not a daily driver.

Why smoke? Smoke sems a little light! I was jus asking everyone who has read this post.

Dark smoke does look better but the odds are you cant see them light up during the day in the sun. If you wanna run the risk of getting rear ended then get dark smoke, but i think regular smoke looks just as good and is more safe.

BTW, does anyone know if the smoked vinyl pieces are hard to put on? Do they go on the inside of the tail-light/headlight? If so, it there ever bubbling?
I'm considering buying them because I don't wanna spend a heck of a lot on new headlights, especially if I plan on trading my stang in for a newer one later.

2). They adhere to the outside of the OEM lenses. Just clean the lenses first and you're ready to start installation.
3). Bubbling after the installation is nonexistent. You squeegee out the bubbles during installation and that is it. Actually, after the sun has warmed up the covers a few times (or, additionally in the case of headlight covers, they get warm from being illuminated) the covers smooth out even more. So after a couple of days they are beautifully smooth and you can't tell without looking really close that the lenses were not manufactured this way but instead have covers on.
4). Exactly. This is an very inexpensive mod that neverthtless looks great. And, if some day you were going to trade in the car and you wanted to / needed to remove the smoked covers, they just peel off. (Granted, if you leave them on for five years or so they are probably not gonna want to peel off).
5). Maintenance is easy. 303 Aerospace Protectant or any other non-petroleum based vinyl protectant will work. Just treat them every now and then when you are washing the car.
