Default 89 Saleen Paint Correction

This was a Saleen that I detailed last week. I just did the paint only. It rained all day so I didn't get a chance to take any pictures outside.

The paint was single stage and it had some pretty bad scratches in swirls. I ended up going through 13 buffer pads on this detail!

Products used:
Optimum Instant Detailer to remove light dust (car was already washed)
Claybar w/ Optimum No Rinse for clay lube
Optimum Hyper Compound with a rotary and LC Purple Wool on the really bad areas.
Optimum Hyper Compound w/PC and orange light cutting pad
Optimum Polish II w/white polishing pad
Obsessive Detail Wet Glaze w/ gray finishing pad
Obsessive Detail Wet Obsession wax

Here are a couple before pictures under the halogens:

The afters:

Yeah, the paint was single stage, so the pads turned black pretty quick. Once they started getting bad I noticed they were starting to put swirls back into the paint.

Thanks for the compliments!

It looks absolutely stunning Justin.

I do have a question about the colors on the pads. When I did my car, by the end the pad looked a bit pinkish (I have a Laser Red GT). At what point do you need to throw the pads away or stop using them? When you said you went through 13 pads, I realized I never thought about if you should change pads mid-job.

Once the pads start looking dirty you can use a brush to help get some of the residue off. The reason I had to change the pad so much is because it was single stage paint and the pad was caked with black. With clearcoats the pads don't get nearly as bad.

Your pads should last your for quite some time, just keep washing them by hand or throw them in the washing machine. I have pads that I use a ton that I've been using for over a year.
