I once had a chrome license plate frame that was REALLY nice. But one week into the colder weather up here in New England, it rusted.

I want to get some Saleen S-Style rims.. and I don't know if I want chrome because of this bad experience. Are these somehow coated different to not rust? Can I get an aluminum version? Also, exhaust tips... don't chrome exhaust tips rust just as easily? Thanks guys

 

chrome shouldnt rust easily at all if is taken care of. just keep them clean and all the salt off of them when possible. and also throw a coat of wheel sealant or wax on them every month or so. you will probably have more of a problem with polished aluminum than chrome because the aluminum is a raw metal and the chrome is coated.

 

Well, what kind of problems would I run into with the polished aluminum?

 

you would have much more maintenance to do with polished aluminum rims. that is the biggest problem. they look great when they are clean and polished, and are lighter than chrome, but if they arent taken care of properly then they start to look very bad. they also have more of a problem rusting and staining because they arent coated like chrome.
