Default DUST

My Vista Blue 08' GT Vert collects dust like crazy, and I'm sure it's worse for you guys with black. I have been using a California car duster when the layer is thin, but when it gets thicker, I have been washing it, to attempt to avoid swirl marks with moving dust around. Anyone have a secret to removing dust? Do you guys use the dusters, or anyone have a reason to or not to use one? I've used them forever on all of my vehicles, and I'm pretty careful, but with the Mustang, I want to be even more careful. Any input would be great.

I've used a duster for almost 20 yrs and had no problems w/ scratches or swirl marks. What for wax are you using? Maybe its the cause of the static attracting dust.

Meguiars right now, but if you have a suggestion, I'm open. The car is in the garage at all times, and is dusty within a half hour of washing. It drives me CRAZY. Is there a wax that works to keep dust away?

I've read somewhere that there are some out there that doesn't attract dust (as fast) but I cant remember what brands, hell it might be just a gimmick also. Id ask Justin in http://www.obsessivedetail.com He probable have something thats good. I use to use Meguires extensively but I use Wet Obsession now.

I also use meguiars nxt tech wax 2.0 and with the black it drives me insane. Having a gravel driveway doesn't help either. Where would I get this duster?

The original and the best is the California Car Duster. You can get at most any auto part stores , I think Wal mart even has them. But let me tell you how to get it ready for use. First get you some newspaper and lay it out flat then take the duster and kind of frump it up so you can get most of the yarn like fibers making contact with the newspaper . Let it sit like that over night and next day do again w/ fresh newspaper. The reason for this is because of all the paraffin wax. If you dont take of the excess you will streak the hell of your car. It doesn't hurt it, but it makes a smeary mess, especially on black. I also would try to use it in the shade if possible until you start to get some dust and dirt built into the duster. After it no longer streaks you then can use it in the sun. I used mine for over 15 years on my '65 Falcon show car. What sold me on it was I was at this real uppity show AACA winners and such and I saw a guy w/ a black '66 or '67 Impala using it , so I check his ride out for scratches and stuff and talked w/ him about it and after that I was sold. Now I'm using it on my '05 Stang and I never have cleaned it...just shake the hell out of it. Sorry for being long winded but I hope this helps ya.

Can the california duster be cleaned? Does it ever need to? Mine seems to be getting pretty nasty. Has even gotten heavier from all the dust it's collected.

I think you can but my care directions were lost many years ago. I lol'ed at yours getting heavier, only because I think your right. I think I will do a web search about it. If i find anything I'll post.

This is what I found out....

After a particularly dirty job, you can wash the duster in a gentle solution of cold water and Woolite. Let the mophead dry and you’re ready to go again
