are you looking for stuff you can buy at the store or something that has to be ordered online? for OTC stuff, the only thing that i have found that i like is the clay magic kit. for online stuff i have heard good things about juztangs selection at obsessive detail. i havent personally tried his clay bars, but i have ordered quite a bit from him in the past and have been very impressed with everything.

You are going to get a lot of different answers about this topic. Basically, all the clay in the United States is made by Auto Wax Inc., they are the only company allowed to make clay bars due to a patent that they have on it. So like I said, all of the claybars in the US are made by the same company, but there are many different variations. You can get clay in different colors and different level of aggressiveness like light, medium, and heavy. There are also a few different sizes.

When you do decide what claybar you want and pick it up, I always recommend taking your claybar and breaking it up in about 4 different pieces. Pick out the piece you are going to use and put back the rest in a ziplock baggy to keep them moist. The reason you don't want to use a whole bar is if you drop it, you have to throw the whole bar away, so if you just drop a little piece, you still have 3 leftover. Also, once the claybar gets pretty dirty and you don't want to use it on your paint you can save it for lower panels, wheels, and exhaust.

I'd go with the Mothers clay -- it's never let me down.

It's a great mild clay that is strong enough to get off normal contaminants without being too aggressive. You get two full size bars in the kit (more than any other clay kit), plus a microfiber towel and of course the Showtime Instant Detailer lubricant.

Hands down, it's the best value you can get at your local auto parts store.

Speaking of hands, I have rather large hands, and I prefer to use the full bar, though sometimes wear a nitrile glove and a bar generally sticks pretty good to that; or I wedge a little bit between two fingers, especially if I'm working on the sides where it may drop (hint: lay some clean newspaper or cardboard or a towel if it were to drop).

Thanks for the responses - I know this is a judgement call - but I want opinions as this is my first time.

Again - I have seen products on autogeeek that run the range of price.

I know Justin's products are highly recommended here and that is a major factor.

Justin - or anyone - which of your clay products would you recommend and which "high end" product would your recommend based on experience or word of mouth?

Thanks!!!!
