Default Headlight Lens Renewer

I've seen these kinds of products advertised in my local auto parts stores lately, and I'm curious just how effective they are. Basically they claim to remove yellowing or clouding from headlight lenses.

What I haven't been able to find are any first hand accounts of how well this stuff works, and if the effort (assuming the headlight assemblies have to be removed from the car) is worth the pay off.

Bought a bottle of Turtle Wax Headlight Restorer this morning, loving the results. The entire kit was only 10 bucks (There was another brand for 5, but it only included the restoring compound) and well worth the money. Took me around 30 minutes to do both headlights, and I'd recommend doing this to anyone with mild to moderately cloudy/yellow headlights, hell you'd probably notice a significant difference even in severely damaged headlights.

Some kits are more versatile.

Keep in mind that you should use a plastic polish or wax routinely to maintain shine and protection.

The Mothers PowerBall 4Lights is a pretty versatile kit and I've used it on a couple of cars -- the included sanding pads I've only used on really crusty lights, and they came out looking pretty darned nice.

I used plexus for a while it worked great for minor scratches and stuff. Otherwise if it's really bad you might have to resort to a wet sanding routine to get it back to original shine and clarity

Megire's has one now. Its about $25 bucks but to me its worth it because its teh only one I know of that restores a UV protection to the light. Others don't and the UV is what will destroy them again quickly.

Meguire's has that UV protection, really.? Hmm. I recently did my head lights with one of those dollar packages for meguires, plastic polish at AutoZone.

First hit with with Wet sand paper starting with 800
second moved to 1000
then onto 1500
then to 2000.

Yeah my passenger light was horrid! lol. even after all that sanding I still need to hit it again with 1000+ no need to do 800 again, But it came out fantastic I can see the difference with clear lights. Only wish that I had a camera at the time of doing it because it was sooo worth it!. maybe this time around it is clouded a bit and will be able to tell what the effects of sanding and polishing are.

I use Meguiars Plast-X on my lights and have even had great results on the windows. Highly recommend it.
