Default Body work question

Not sure if this is the right place but if not then I apologize feel free to move to proper place mods.

Ok I have a 94 Mustang and one of the previous owners put a 97 saleen wing on the back... looks pretty good... however either they put it on wrong, the wing is too heavy, they drove over train tracks and bumps too fast, or they messed the trunk up when they were sanding it to prime it... So my question is how do I fix this:

I have a family friend that ownes a body shop and he is going to paint the car for me for a good price but I know its expensive to fix things like this and im not sure how much he will charge me to fix it... I can get the trunk lid to replace the damaged one for $100 no big deal if i need too, but what about the wing... can I just put some car bondo in the cracks and sand them down? I really like the saleen wing and would like to keep it but if I cant then I guess I cant... any help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe you can find a new trunk lid. Looks pretty bad. It would require some serious sheet metal work to cut out and replace the metal. Plus reinforcing it if necessary.

I would research finding a replacement instead of messing with that one. Just my opinion.

If the one from the junk yard is in good shape. Have someone reinforce the mounting area from underneath. Shouldn't take much. Maybe just a couple of plates.

Make sure you use good rubber gasket material between the hood and the spoiler. It will help to seal it from rain/weather and also help lock it in place.

I would probably even throw some silicone around the mounting holes before you put the spoiler back on.

would that liquid gasket seal for like thermostats work? I could just put some around the holes and on the base of the wing, bolt it down, then wipe away any excess.

No I would not use the same stuff used for the thermostat. I would get some clear silicone (comes in a small tube like caulk) and also some rubber gasket material. It comes in rolls or sheets.

Trace the bottom of the spoiler strut and cut out one for each side.

I would only put a small amount of silicone around the mounting hole. Enough to seal it but not enough to have it ooze out from under the spoiler pillar/strut/brace (what ever you want to call it). If some excess does squirt out then just wipe it off.

Can you tell if it is fiberglass or ABS, or plastic?

I would probably look at some serious 2 part epoxy to fill in the small gaps and cracks. But you have to be careful because Epoxy Resin is really hard and you will need to sand it down smooth. You don't want to do damage to the surrounding areas.

Then wet sand down the rest of it and prime it.

Your going to have to be real careful with the sanding. Or maybe see if you can find a replacement spoiler that isn't all beat up.

Did the trunk you found have a spoiler on it or the holes from one?

You might just go with a NEW aftermarket spoiler. They are not that expensive.
