Default Exhaust questions

Been saving up some cash for an exhaust upgrade.
I'm thinking about purchasing a dual exhaust kit off of ebay. Most likely buying flows. Here are some questions ...

1) Delta Flow 40 series muffs really improve torque and horsepower? Thinking about Getting the American thunders or the delta flows. Which companies has the best sounding mufflers: borla, magnaflow, flowmaster?

2) I'm going to get dual exhaust what size piping would be adequate 2.25 or 2.50?

3) Do i need and h or x pipe?

4) Any ideas for tips?

5) Anybody know where I can find flowmaster, magnaflow, etc exhaust systems cheap?

6) Can somebody explain how "true duals" work?

thanks alot

4- i plan on buying some tips from pep boys and having them welded on at the muffler shop, so u can do that if u want
5- im sure on of these other peeps will help
6- i know what it is but i cant seem to explain it sry...

Flowmasters do not add any hp unless you go with whatever race muffler they offer, which won't be street legal. Flowmasters are for sound and sound only unfortunetly.

If you want HP and TQ increases, take a look at the Magnaflow/SLP/Bassani systems. Personally I prefer Magnaflow because of their quality, awesome straight through muffler and sweeeeeeet sound. If you want some sound clips of my Magnaflow setup just let me know.

1. FM's won't increase HP. Most mufflers alone won't increase HP.

2. 2.25 will probably be adequate, but if you are going to make the switch, upgrade to 2.5. It will barely change the price. Mandrel bent is more critical than the size.

3. I like the X. But you have cat issues and additional $$$ involved.

4. Most systems include some type of stainless tips already welded on.

5.So many places to choose.

6. If you're serious.... True dual is a term used to signify that there is full separate path from manifold to tailpipe on each side of your car. Since 1986 V8 Mustangs come stock with 'true duals'. Take a look at a stock 1979 5.0. You will cringe.

Magnaflow tips aren't welded on. Allows for some freedom to customize the look even more. 99+ GT stock cat/h-pipe system isn't that bad to begin with, mufflers alone can create a respectable HP gain. 2.5 inch exhaust is well enough, you should go with 3 inch if you plan on making some respectable 350RWHP+ in the future to see the benefits of a large diameter exhaust.

2.5 inch exhaust for a true dual setup? I'm probably going to get a MAC cat back system with catted h-pipe and headers.. What's the difference between short and long headers?

i go with flowmasters cuz im only really concered with the sound. 2 40 series mufflers are under my 66 and they set off a sweet tune. 2.5'z would be better with an x-pipe. just get some oval chrome tips from any muffler shop an thatll do the trick.(dont get delta flow if u go wit flowmaster)

what's all this fuss about spintech mufflers in other forums...are they THAT good? i've only heard horrible things about flowmaster since i got my car (with them already installed) so i think i may change those next, along with that annoying pipe between the cats and the mufflers...too small
