Default Newbie with a PC7424

I recently purchased a 2008 Mustang V6 Convertible. It has light to medium cobwebbing and swirls in the paint. I purchased a PC7424 and some OTC compound. I was just using what was available to me instead of ordering a bunch of stuff.

I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Wax with a white polishing pad. It looks 100% better but still has very light cobwebbing. I can't seem to get the last of it out. The pad is the one that came with the 7424.

Different pad and compound combo? More speed? More Pressure? More time with the compound?

I have some wool bonnets but haven't attempted those.

Thanks,

Dave

the easiest combination i know of is adam's polishes...it's a good thing you're using the safest polisher you can possibly use, so perfecting your technique will come without destroying your paintjob

that's the kit i'm talking about

http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-478-a...ssory-kit.aspx

and there's the link

there's a bunch of other polishes and what not, but this one is literally the easiest system to use...no guessing what pad is needed with what polish

good luck luck with getting everything out

Thanks for the link, but I am not going to be shelling out another 200 bucks after the initial 150 for the polisher.

Red face

Ah, I see.

I have a 10 inch orbital that I ruined a paint job on a 67 Impala Convertible about 15 years ago and swore I would never use another polisher. Now that I think about it I might have been able to save it if I knew then what I know now.

Thanks for the info. I have seen the kits and been researching polishers for a few months which is how I ended up with the 7424.

I really like the machine. Works very well and so far I haven't done anything stupid.

I have had really good luck with Meguiars products over the years. I will probably get some of the pads and products that Meguiars offers.

Hope I didn't come off sounding like a butt in my response to the kit.

UC with an orange pad (ex. LC , buff n shine) speed six, then UP with the white pad (ex. LC , buff n shine) speed 4 should do it. Apply approx 15 lb of pressure.

+1

You probably need to go up to the orange pad to get a little more bite with the compound. I corrected some pretty nasty scuffs and swirls on my car using the 7424 with the orange pad and Pinnacle advanced swirl remover. Just go slow and check your work often so you don't overdo it. You would really have to go overboard to mess up the finish with the 7424 but it can be done.

Yeah, like everybody else has said get different pads. The white one that came with it is only really to polish with, and it is kind of junk. Cheaper way would be to just order the Meguiars Microfiber backing plate and pads. I think you can get them for under $40 maybe. Or you can order the whole kit with the compund and finishing wax for under $100. But the UC will work fine with the microfiber kit.
