Default Found terribly deep scratches while washing my car :(

Hey guys,

I went to wash my car yesterday and found terribly deep scratches on my car...
I'm not very skilled with paint work or scratches, do you guys think it was vandalism?
I did bring it to a dealership the day before, but I doubt they'd do anything stupid like that... should I call and ask?
How much might it cost to get it done professionally?

The scratches feel deep, I can feel it with my fingernail

Hopefully this is the right section, any tips would be appreciated

I hate to say it but to me that looks deliberate. The second pic where you have the one scratch running directly opposite the other 3 doesnt make sense for anything but deliberate damage.

The things I would ask you is are the scratches anywhere near the area where the dealership was asked to work on the car, how long did the dealer have the car, what type of work were they doing, when was the last time you looked at that area of the car, why didnt you notice it earlier (like how dirty does your car get)... before you even think about approaching the dealership.

My gut says they had nothing to do with it because they usually stay busy and why would they pick out your car to damage out of all of the many others they work on daily? Im not saying it never happens, but it seems unlikely.

Yeah it probably wasn't the dealership, they were pretty friendly and was only there for about an hour or so.

Whatever, sometimes people suck I guess, most likely some hoodlums.

It's funny, I don't know why I didn't notice... I went to visit a friend on Friday night so it might have happened overnight. I really think I'd notice stuff like this since I drive it daily :/

Anyways what's done is done and I'll take it to some places over the next few weeks to get quotes... any ideas on ballpark estimates?

Yeah it sucks when that stuff happens. Hard to make a guesstimate because the pics don't really tell the whole story. I cant tell which body panels they are on. I'd say its going to depend greatly on where you take it and how deep the scratches are.

You might go to a higher end used car dealer and see who they use. Usually the mobile guys do a really good job and are far less than a body shop.

Ouch! Sorry to see that happen. The rule is, if you can catch the scratch with your fingernail, it's going to need to be repainted. No idea about the cost since it really depends on your area and the shop that you take it to. I would imagine somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-$1000. Good news is that black is an easy color to match and blend.

not always...a good detailer might be able to save it with a good wet sanding and then polish it back to perfection (if there's enough microns of clearcoat to do so)...find a good auto detailer that can wet sand and see what they say before you look at re-painting

Still looking for that couple.
