but you can't just use a formulaunless they're running similar intake, heads, cam, exhaust manifolds, "midpipe", and catback</P>

Hence the term guestimation. It gets the general idea across. Jug, if pipes and the sort of cross over can make such a big difference when there's not really any restrictions in them, imagine what taking a bunch of roadblocks called a "muffler" off for a straight pipe or straight through muffler can net.

i understand, but if exhaust is (pretty much)all they're doing then it won't make a whole lot of difference because there won't be more air pumping through</P>

basically, performance mufflers are good, but not everyone needs them. if they're happy with greatsound and subpar performance they can be.</P>

It'll make a nice difference man. You make it easier for the motor to spit out or take in gases, you'll make more power. Less energy is spent on pumping them out and more is spent pushing on the piston, delivering more power to the crank and everything connected to it, including the road.

Will it help to have the intake opened up too? Yeah. Necessary? Hell no.

Don't get me wrong, they do sound great...but I prefer performance and I happened to get lucky because I think my exhaust sounds great. <IMG src=smileys/smiley10.gif border="0"></P>

oh Lord, not the infamous exhaust argument again. <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"> ...and why are you comparing a 425hp motor to a stock motor anyway?...especiallya turbo motor, where doing any kind of exhaust is going toshow significant gains.<edited><editID>FiveOhNo</editID><editDate>37976.9788773148</editDate></edited>

It helps show the real difference between the muffler systems available. </P>

Everyone thinks its 2-5hp more over Flowmaster with Magnaflow/SLP etc..when it's well over that on a NA car.</P>

$368 bucks from WWW.RPMOUTLET.COM</P>

Well worth it, Magnaflow is one of the best systems out there, if not the best. </P>
