Hey guys. New to electric buffers always did the manual way. I have a makita 7 inch polisher that uses the hook and loop bonnets. How do I clean these? They have a hard inside backing with the Velcro that attached to polisher itself. Obviously, these need cleaning after my last wax job. How do I clean these? I am assuming throwing them in te washing machine likely will only damage the material and not clean the pad. How do I clean these for my next job?

Do you have much experience using a Rotary? Also if you don't mind me asking what color is your car? A rotary can do some serious damage to the finish of a vehicle if it is in the hands of someone who really does not know how to use it (not saying don't know how to use it). I would recommend looking into a dual-action polisher as they are much safer in the hand of a novice for paint work.

As far as cleaning you pad just use some good soapy water, or some APC (all purpose cleaner). I use a APC and my pressure washer to clean all my pads.

 

Thanks. It was the makita kit 9227c I believe came with 2 pads. I have experience just not those type of pads.

I am doing this on my black tacoma and teal cobra.

I just heard keep it moving otherwise you burn the paint and wax.

 

Yeah keep it moving and keep the speeds down, especially on the black tacoma. Toyota are notorious for having soft paint, and if you are running at too high of a speed you run the risk of having holograms (mainly visible in strong light). Also as a tip I would recommend not using 7" pads. I recommend getting a 5" backing plate along with 5.5" foam pads. I would recommend getting 3 of the Orange light cutting pads, 3 white polishing pads and you can get away with 1 black finishing pad for spreading wax. I use a lot of these pads.

I sprayed mine out really well with the hose. I mean, to the point that the water flushing out of them was crystal clear. I then threw them in the wash using a mild detergent with the microfiber towels I buffed off the same polish/wax with.
