Default Touch up paint tips

Just purchased a new mustang convertible, and I already have a small rock chip on the hood. Any tips or suggestions for using touch up paint?

I used some Dr Colorchip on my 2014 mustang convertible and it matched really well. I had a few scratches on the trunk and while they did not completely dispensary, you have to look really close to see them now. They were into the primer. Some deeper dings on the bumper are a lot less visible and I plan to put a few more coats on to see if I can fill them up some. All in all, the match was right on and it was easy to use. Bad news is its expensive. None of the parts stores in my area had that color. I have a Ruby Red metallic.
