Got keyed? repair pics
I hate to see cars that got keyed, but it happens. This is a job I got in yesterday. The scratch is about 7" long. First thing I did was wet sand it with 3000/ then 2000, then 1500.

I buffed with the high speed using wool, and med cut. Switched to foam yellow fine cut, final with green pad, speed glaze. Once I brought back the shine from were I sanded, I needed to use my artistic skills. using a fine artist brush, I started out with the factory touch up paint. The trick is to use as little paint as possible to fill in the line. Problem with this job was the touch up paint was too light, so I had to tint it a little darker to blend it in. After I tinted it, the results were to my satisfaction. Customer was pleased also because he saved about $500 for not going to a body shop. Gary

I still see the scratch - is that the final pic [&:] If so, would it get better if you repeated all the above steps for a second time? What did you charge compared to a $500 body shop. I personally wouldn't pay to have something like this fixed unless it was gone. Not flaming, just curious.
To get the door repainted itll prolly be anywhere from $250-800, depending on which body shop you go to.... I'd say around 400 bucks to repaint it... youve done pretty much all you can do you can touch it up with touch up paint but itll still look like sh*t....
hmm 7' long,id say then that part thats bein seen is only maybe half an inch and u wouldnt notice it unless u knew exactly where the scratch was and was really examining it? [&:] but yeah should be totally gone just not tryin to be a killjoy or something
edit..
take a picture 10 steps back of the whole car and have a wheres waldo for the scratch and then we can have better opinions on it

I should clarify another point on this fix. This was a 89 minivan with 125,000 miles. Customer was loooking for improvement NOT perfection. I would not suggest you bringing me your Shelbly GT for this fix. spend the money and repaint. However this is a perfect solution for older high milage cars that owners don't want to invest hundreds of dollars on. I charged $100, time involved was 2.5 hours. Bottom line, he was happy. Gary
