typical breakdowns on a 66 stang
Hi guys,
i am originally from europe, here in Los Angeles on a working assignment.
During my stay here i got myself a nice unrestored 1966 Coupe C-Type in real good condition.
A dream of mine came true.
Now, that i am in the middle of my restoration, this working assignment of mine got cancelled
unexpectedly, and i have to move back to europe soon.
My plan is now to take the car with me, and continue the restoration in europe.
Now, i am totally new, kind of, with restoring cars and generally, working on them.
Now i got the car into a really nice looking, awesome running state, and i am proud of that.
But i don"t know the goods and bads about this car. I just love to drive it.
I already got pretty much all parts together to continue my restoration in europe, but that"s
mostly stuff that make the car look pretty.
But since i"ll be going back to europe, and over there, getting parts there for a american-only
car is a pain in the a**, i would need to get it all together before i leave.
I would need some assistance or help in the technical things, that would be really great.
The car in general is in quite good condition, no rust anywhere, no body damage, good
engine and transmission (i think) - engine does leak a little bit, but sounds like it should,
and runs like it should. Automatic transmission shifts smoothly.
I got the engine checked out at a mustang shop a couple months ago. They replaced the
carburator and checked out things.
Since then i pretty much did not have much problems, except that from time to time things
break (since the car is unrestored - and the previous owner told me the car was sitting a
couple of years in a garage...)
My Questions now would be:
What are typical breakdowns on that car?
What can i expect to break when using as a daily driver?
What are typical wear-and-tear parts, to take spares with me to europe...
What parts should be replaced or repaired for a daily driver?
And, by any chance, does any one know shipping companies that will ship cars
internationally?
I would be very grateful if someone could help me...
Regards,
gibsonhans!

Go to a parts place like AutoZone and get the following to take back to Europe with you.
1. belts
2. water pump
3. hoses
4. Fuel pump
5. Fuel sending unit
6. Air filter
7. Intake manifold and head gaskets
8. rebuilt carburetor
9. Starter relay
10. Rebuilt starter
These are the parts that normally have to be replaced. Any other parts can probably be ordered from places like NPD. Also Ebay generally has parts that can be shipped overseas. I was stationed in Germany for several years, and didn't have any problems getting parts.
The U.S. government always shipped my cars for me, so I don't know of any shipping companies out of L.A. Check the yellow pages.

none of the mustang specific places ship to europe?
maybe if you know someone over here that's cool and reliable, you could order some of your stuff, have it sent to them and than have them ship it out to you. it'd be better if you knew someone on the east coast *clears throat*. it might cost ya a few extra bux, but you could get your parts.
also, go to www.fordforums.com and ask them over there. i know there are a LOT of austrailians there and prolly some europeans also. maybe they can tell ya something we don't know. than again, aust has their own set of parts. well, it's worth the few minutes to start a thread there too.
GL with your project and keep us posted!

How about suspension parts? Brake parts? Electrical parts? Have you replaced any of those since you bought it? Those are pretty common things also to replace on our cars.

now where's my 650 i got stashed away for that painless kit?[&:]
I don't know what painless charges for their wiring kits, but I have always heard they are really good kits. However, I ordered my new tail light harness from Dallas Mustang, and paid 79.95 for it. It is a perfect factory replica down to the tiniest detail. It runs from the dash all the way to the rear. Now, that to me is a painless harness.
