Engine Swap
We're considering pulling the 6 cylinder engine out of my son's 68 and putting in the 289 v8 from my 67. The 68 has a manual tranny and the 67 is an automatic. Are we nuts? Is this doable for a couple of shade tree mechanics? Any tips on where we can go to learn what we'll need to have and know to do this?
That swap should be easy, the only thing you need to check is the pilot bearing on the crank to make sure they are the same. Worst case, you will need to install a new one to match the tranny. The other thing to keep in mind is, all you're suspension parts are for a 6 cyl so, that would need to be addressed as well.

Here, do some reading. There's more to it than meets the eye.
