remove those lap belts
Well, as u guys might know i was looking into getting 3 point belts for my 65, but it is now a must as I lost a schoolfriend last week he was throw from a 67 jag passenger seat and that just had lap belts the driver was saved from the same by the steering column. So for anybody looking at mod/upgrades, look in to 3 point belts as well as brakes, suspension and engine.

I am very sorry to hear that. Getting 3-point seatbelts is a good idea for any vehicle. My brother scares me with his VW bugs which sometimes did not have seatbelts period. We often take life for granted. Hang in there!
Sorry about your friend Paddy, I think that the 3 point seat belt is one of the best upgrades togueder with disk brakes, I was very luky that the PO of my 66 installed the both the belts and the disks.
Hi Paddy,
I thought you might like to see slickman's pics of his 3 point seat belt install. After seeing these pics it clarified the written instructions I have read. I plan to do these next on my '65 https://mustangforums.com/m_1428634/tm.htm

I am in the process of upgrading my seat belts...from standard 67's to deluxe belts. I am not interested in making the conversion. I have been in wrecks and have been first on the scene to a few accidents in my life with lap belts. In my experience, lap belts perform as intended, but they do place considerable stress across the hips in certain collisions.
The only provision for safety is a car with crumple zones, front and side curtain airbags and a 5-point harness. Even then, you're still not safe from severe crashes.
I will keep the Mustang as designed and NOT commute in it.

67 Rally,
I did not understand your post. You said you will not commute in your car. OK. What is your point? Also, we did not ask you if you were interested in making the conversion. This thread was started by someone who is. My post was to paddy and others who ARE planning on doing the 3 point conversion for a safer car.

we had a state patrolman die last week because of a shoulder harness it sliced his jugular and he died a few days later the car wasnt even that tore up. loss of his life of over a revnue raising speeding ticket is sad. him and a few other officers were working the road directly off the innerstate all day he pulled right out in front of someone
That's the thing, one minute the shoulder strap saves you, the next time it aids in the death of someone else. That being said, I always buckle up in my other vehicles. I can bring myself to drill holes in the mustang where the harness attached through the door jam.
Some might remember I did install 3 pointers in my rear seat, which was less obtrusive and there were no belts back there at all.

im all for voluntary seatbelt/ helmet use its only u that gets hurt and if u arent here whos gonna pay ur taxes the govt figures guess we better make them buckle up!
