Small block Machs
I just read a line in the newest Mustang Monthly mag that stated that "you rarely see many small block Mach 1's these days". The caption was beneath a 69 351 W 4v. What am I missing? Almost every 69-70 Mach 1 I see is a 351. I see the occasional 428 but the rarest in my opinion is the 390. I have the "original" 351 W 2V in my 70 Mach 1. Yes its the original. Yes its early production for that year. Yes they did eventually switch to the 351 C as the base motor for the 70. Anyway, I can't understand why they made the comment that the small block Machs are becoming far and few. Any idea what they were tryingto get at?
I know in 71 they had Mach 1's with a 302 in it, and they are not found often. Does itspecify what year? Mabey they were just stating that theres alot lets 302 mach 1's than 351's and just had it worded funny? -Jon
my dad had a 69 mach 1 with a 351w 4v
i remember riding in it when i was little, they just retarred the parking lot at burger king. well, when the lady handed him the bag of food he lit em up, and roasted the tires for a COMPLETE lap around the building, then onto the road before he stopped because we couldnt see anything.
it just may have been the best burnout ever, ever, ever

i guess most people blew up the small block or someother reason got a big block for it. the 70s gas shortage didnt help them and a few years back cilton passed a law where the oil companys get 500 bucks for every old car they crush hot rod saved a camaro from them. named it the crusher camaro they even made it pass cali smog test to rub it in there face
hmm...my Mach has a 351W...i never see the 390 either. sometimes i see a cobra jet on eBay or something, but still, i see a lot of SB Machs. One of my friends who lives like a mile away and goes to school with me has a Mach with a 351W.
Perhaps you dont see alot of them on Barrett-Jackson (since they hand pick whos cars will be sold and they are always big blocks) but the majority of Mach I's were 351's. The rarest for 69-70 is the 390 followed by the 428, then the 4v 351 then the base 351 2v. I dont know, almost every Mach 1 I see is a 351 and it is usually exciting to see a 428.
lol, ol red's got a 351w in it, but its nowhere near stock, gave the stock engine (completely taken apart by me before i found out my dad wasnt going to buy me a ranchero to throw it in) to our mechanic to build for his daughters boyfriend.
