Default carb trouble

i have an edlebrock 1407 in my 66. i was pulling out of a friends driveway the other day and my car stalled, couldnt get it started. pulled over and my carb was leaking fuel on the side that the throttle is not on. i tried to start a couple of time all the fuel that was is the filter would drain into carb and then i guess in to the engine.. i did realize that i needed to stop trying to start the car with the fuel leak but could someone tell me what happend.... my buddy said i need a holley carb and that will fix my problem.

Sounds like your float got out of whack and is allowing too much fuel into the bowl. Overhaul the carb. The needle and seat are probably worn out.

+1

Although I'm no fan of Edel carbs, they do work. Check the needle/seat and float as Glen mentioned. It is possible the float lost its bouyancy.

I just like to rebuild things. Carbs are on top of my *like* list of things to rebuild.

It's not that difficult. Just get a clean working surface, a good rubber tip air nozzle and a place where you can clean parts. You know it's done right and you'll know where to look should it act up.

Just tear it down and put it back together. It's about a 2 hour job if you've never done it before.

Good luck.
