Default Headlight bucket repair?

My headlight bucket is broken at the top little tab A lot of people think these broke when they were originally installed on the early cars.
My questions is, has anyone tried to weld this area back together or should I just purchase one of the headlight bucket repair kits (cast pieces that attach with JB-Weld).
It's really small, thin area of metal, so I am worried about burn-thru and ruining the existing bucket so I wouldn't be able to use the kit. A piece that is not remade for the 64.5 and used prices are absolutely ridiculous!
Will a quick spot weld hold it without destroying it?

Don't try to weld it, you'll fry it.

I'd buy the repair kit. Mine has the same problem just haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.

That upper inner corner probably started to crack at the factory. Mine have been broken since I got the car 35 years ago. Doesn't seem to mind, so I don't. Funny thing, the Taiwanese reproduction is so faithful to OE that they break there, too. 1/16" thicker and they'd be almost indestructible. If the tab is broken off, the kit is the way to go, otherwise you'll have no screw there. I have seen guys who could weld white metal, but I never got good results.

I had a ticking I was sure was my engine since it was in time to the RPMs. It was driving me nuts when I was working under the hood (didn't hear while driving)... I finally tracked it down to that headlight bucket. it rattles against some of the part of the body. If I just touch the headlight bucket at the break, the ticking/rattle is gone.
I guess the repair kit is the way to go... maybe someone sells only the right one?

Ha! If the left one isn't cracked, it's a freaking miracle. Save that one, it'll probably crack about 5 minutes after you find a right-only repair piece.

You dondt need the tab.. instead drill a hole through the headlight bucket assembley and have it fasten to the inside of the front fender. with a bolt you will be able to get rid of that nasty gap from the headlight bucket door and it will look more professional
