Default I6 vs. V8 steering center linkage

On a '65 is there any difference between the I6 and V8 steering center steering linkage?
I plan on replacing the pit man arm and idler arm with Shelby units and the tie rods will be replaced because the are so old. But how about the center steering link?

Lynn,

The 6 Cylinder Non Power Steering centerlinks is different than the V8 Non Power.

The 6 Cylinder Power Steering is Different than the V8 Power Steering.

You will need to Change all the steering to convert.

Thanks!
Does that mean the manual steering box as well?
Should I go with a better manual steering box instead of the stock one?
I plan to do some minor track, strip time.

The 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder 64-66 both used the same steering gearbox (4-turn or 5-turn, depending on application such as GT, PS, etc) but the 6 and 8 had totally different steering linkage. For drag racing it really doesn't matter which box you have. If you are going around, the 4-turn is a must.

You can only use the Shelby quick steering arms with V8 steering.

Thanks guys.
How do I tell if I got a 4 or 5 turn gear box? I have just got a plain Jane 6 banger with manual steering.

Since I got replace the steering linkage anyway I have no fear of damaging the rubber boot so is it problem to use a pickle fork to get the steering end link off the gear box?

The tie rod puller I borrowed from garage on the way from work is too big to fit the tie rod to pull it off and that is the only one they have.

LYNN BOB,
As Stated by the Others, You you can use the Box you have, Physically they are all the same, the internals are Different---AS 2+2 Stated, it is a matter of 4 Turns from total Left to Right, or 5 Turns (Gear Ratio/Leverage)

You will need to change the Pitman, All V8 Cars, PS, or Manual use the same Pitman, the 6 Cylinder will not work.

Using the Box on the Track??? Many Varibles, Likes, Dislikes?? Your call there.

I Will say, if Road racing, a 4 turn is a must.

On the Tag::

HCC At---5 Turn

HCC AW---4 Turn

If Lucky, HHC AX 4 turn GT Box.

I'll try to figure out my center, my suspension is all off.
Thanks,

I'll have to try and clean the tag off to see what it is. There is a rust spot right in the middle of the tag, so I may not be able to tell that way.
Thanks,
Lynn
