new guy with fan question
Hello, I ve decided to join after lurking on the board for awhile. Got a 66 with a stock 289 and auto. Recently I replaced the the water pump with a flow cooler, it replaced the aluminum stock pump that is shorter than the cast iron pump. I learned that after ordering the wrong one. I replaced the hoses and thermostat and all that jazz. The car has a 3 1/2 fan shroud and a five blade stock fan. My Q is that I know for the fan to operate at its' optimum efficiency it should be half in the shroud and half out. The spacer I have behind the fan is to big and the fan is too far inside the shroud, so are there different size spacers to overcome this.
You can also go to a machine shop, and they can chop your existing spacer to any length you wish is about a nano second. Then go to the hardware store and buy the appropriate length bolts with the right threads. See, there is more than one way to skin a cat, huh?
