UPDATE:

Vinyl: Bought from the fabric store for about 15 bucks a yard.

Cement:

Gluing: Lots of clamps, clue, and razor blades. Not to mention the roller.

There is really no easy way to do vinyl

Back piece:

Back of back piece (not too pretty)

Done for the day:

Upclose bracket: I had to fabricate this bracket to be easily removable in order to access the gauges

Looking Good!!!

How about using the stock console piece for a '66 Automatic. This is easily available repro, and could be mounted from the bottom of the insert.

can you find me a picture scott?

I thought that the 66 shifters were a little different than 67 and 68s.

NPD Catalog Pg 29.

You are right I think they are different too. However seeing as this is "custom" you may be able to make it work. Walt just installed a console with this piece. You might drop him a PM.

If you use this piece then the distance from the shifter base will be somewhat critical to allow proper alignment based on throw.

I don't know i you guys have a company like this in the states, but in belgium there is a company called "Lasertec" . They cut out shapes and stuff in metal using lasers.
Maybe you should look for a similar company near your place do to the engraving for your console?
