65, 66 Tailight question -- felt gasket
I just ordfered a set of 1965/66 tailights for a Mustang, and noticed that on the rear of the assembly there is a felt-like gasket or cushion there, if you will. Forgive the stupid question, as I am using this for another prupose other than a car and am unfamiliar with them, but does this grayish felt material contain asbestos? I thought it might as it would have been in a place in which heat is generated behind the reflector. Before I go tearing into this, I'd like to know if anyone knows the type of material this is. I'll check back in the forum, and, if you want, you can email me direct at archivestereo@yahoo.com
Thanks. I'm sure you will be of help. Mike

Hmm no i don't think it is such a stupid question. But no i don't believe it has any asbestos. I think it is just felt. They are not located in a high heat area as they are accesible from the trunk. So i would'nt worry too much about it. But i would'nt chop it up and huff it or anything.

Just part of an overall art project, actually. I had an idea for it, but haven't exactly figured out what to do entirely. But it's such a great icon. Wish I had the money and skill to restore one of these--it's about my favorite classic car. Thanks for your interest. Mike
